Born in West Virginia, raised there and in North Carolina, Joe Conley wears his southern influences on his sleeve (there's the accent, for one thing), but his quirky and moving songs are universal. For example, they went over well once at a party in someone's backyard in Sweden. His first CD, Sad Songs For Happy People, will be released in 2010. Produced by bluegrass legend Dede Wyland, it features musicians Dede herself (rhythm guitar and harmony vocals), Ira Gitlin (upright bass), Nate Leah (fiddle and mandolin), Mark Delaney (banjo and mandolin), Geoff Campbell (electric guitar), Dave Geigrich (dobro), and Mark Noone (harmony vocals).
